Dr Daniel D'Hotman de Villiers

Daniel is a medical doctor and Rhodes Scholar with experience across the private, public and non-profit sectors. Daniel holds a medical degree from Monash University, with clinical experience in health services across rural and regional Victoria and tertiary hospitals in metropolitan Melbourne. Daniel was awarded First Class Honours for his Bachelor of Medical Science (Hons) at Monash University in 2015, writing his thesis under supervision of Dr Thomas Douglas and Dr Jonathan Pugh at the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics. He has also pursued additional studies in economics, data science and statistics. Daniel has written for a number of academic and journalistic publications, and one of his journal articles was selected as a ‘Top 5 Philosophy Article of 2017’ by the Oxford University Press. Daniel is excited to return to the Uehiro Centre to commence work on his DPhil, in which he will examine the ethical and policy implications of using artificial intelligence to identify and treat patients with mental illness.
