Why Paper Straws won’t Save the World

Marianne Talbot (Director of Studies in Philosophy at OUDCE) and Becky Brown (Research Fellow, Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics) will discuss the uses and abuses of arguments and the exercise of reason. We'll consider how arguments work, what structure they take and how to make good arguments and avoid being distracted by bad ones. We will also reflect on the empirical evidence that suggests humans use reason far less often than they might think and why they would benefit from expending the effort needed to use reason more often.
